A proper seaside escape with real character

The old port area is just gorgeous. Walking along the waterfront with the two towers framing the harbor entrance is something else. Seafood is fresh and affordable, locals are welcoming. Really easy city to enjoy.

Great French coastal city, loved every bit

The covered market Les Halles is a must. So much fresh fish, oysters, local cheese - we could have stayed there all morning. Streets around the old town are walkable and full of little cafés. Felt way more relaxed than Paris.

Perfect winter city break on the Atlantic coast

Quieter in winter which honestly suits me fine. The Tour de la Lanterne is worth climbing for the view alone. Food was excellent and not overpriced at all. The port still feels lively even off-season. Really solid trip.

Lovely city, great food and easy to get around

Stayed a few days and really enjoyed it. The arcaded streets in the old town kept us dry when it rained and there were always good spots to eat nearby. Moules marinières everywhere and they were all good. Compact and easy city.

Liam O. - Dublin, Ireland - November 18, 2025

Beautiful port city, highly recommend

The Vieux-Port is stunning at any time of day but especially at sunset. Boats everywhere, great restaurants right on the water, very relaxed pace. The pineau des Charentes wine is something you need to try while you're here.

Isabelle D. - Brussels, Belgium - September 3, 2025

Summer on the Atlantic - honestly hard to beat

The beaches nearby are clean and not as packed as the Med. Cycling along the coast is easy since the bike paths are well laid out. Oysters straight from the market with a glass of white wine - simple but perfect. Great summer destination.
